Have you ever heard of the Muscle Activation Technique (M.A.T.)? I had only heard the name until a few weeks ago then I met Coach Barb (one of the only 1,500 practitioners in the US). Barb Renier is a personal trainer as well as a M.A.T. specialist.
So right about now you are asking yourself what makes M.A.T. so special and what is it?
M.A.T. helps to reduce and prevent pain by looking at muscle tightness as a form of protection in the body. Weak or inhibited muscles (due to stress, trauma or overuse) can create the need for other muscles to overwork in order to stabilize joints thru compensation. M.A.T. gets to the root of the pain or injury by addressing muscle weakness rather than muscle tightness which helps to restore normal body alignment, thereby, decreasing or eliminatng pain. This is different from massage because in massage it works on the muscles to help reduce tightness and the pain that "knots" can cause.
